Creating a comfortable life with positive outcomes is what each of us desires. When you are in high school it is important to fully understand your disability so your needs can be met at home, in college or in the workplace. The more you know about your disability, the easier it will be for you to ask for assistance.

Understanding a disability helps to determine what is needed in your life in areas such as employment, education, housing, transportation and health as you transition to adulthood. Knowing your needs and that of others with disabilities goes a long way in making life more comfortable. Having a disability is part of our culture's diversity.

It is good to know your talents, what you like to do, the kinds of things you need assistance with in your daily routine and the kind of support that works best for you. There are a variety of state and national organizations that can assist you in learning about yourself and your disability.
